For feline fanciers wanting to get to know their moggy better, inventors in the US may have the answer.
Cat owners can give their furry overlords a voice, so their vocal demands can be met post haste, while winding up the dog.
Its makers claim that the talking collar, called Catterbox, will 'bring cats and owners together' and will add a little more fun to life.
Developed by Mars' Temptations Lab, the talking collar resembles the dog collar from Disney Pixar's Up, which helped the cowardly canine to talk ( 'Squirel!').
By analysing cat vocalisations, the Temptations team associated them with equivalent human emotions.
The result is a collar which can 'translate' the moggy's meows into a human voice.
Explaining the concept on its website, the team states: 'Studies have shown that adult cats meow when talking to humans, not to each other.
'We've analysed these cat sounds and created a program that detects a cat's meow and matches it to a human voice.
'We then put this technology inside a sleek 3D printed collar which connects seamlessly to our app where you can choose your cat's new voice.'
Mars already has links to the cat world through its treats, but is taking things further with this fun tech.
A prototype of the Catterbox collar has been launched in the US and New Zealand.
Speaking to Adweek, Global brand director for Temptations Pete Simmons said: 'We're fascinated by cats, so we set out on a mission to get to know them better.'
While executive creative director of communications agency adam & eveDDB, Richard Brim, told Adweek: 'Cats are often perceived as quite hard to get to know, independent pets, so we set up The Tempations Lab to find innovative ways to inject even more fun into a cat and owner's relationship.
